"And Vikar & Sons Maritime?"
A pause. "Elena... that company was dissolved in 2012. The listed owner was Anton Vikar. Your father."
"I know."
Another pause, longer this time. "What the hell is going on?"
"I don't know yet. But I'm going to find out."
"Elena, if this is what it looks like—"
"Don't say it. Not on the phone. Meet me tomorrow. The usual place. Seven AM."
She hung up and sat in the darkness for a long time, listening to the sounds of the city twenty floors below — horns, sirens, the distant rumble of a subway train. New York never slept, and neither, it seemed, would she.

He raised his glass in a silent toast.
